Wish

There are 3 different ways to use wish:


1.


Form:

Subject + wish + object + had + past participle 

Examples:

  • I wish I had bought flowers for her.


Use:

We use it to express regret about the past -- something that has already happened and we cannot change it.

2.

Form:

Subject + wish + object  + verb in past
 

Examples:
 

  • I wish I were rich.
He wishes he weren't ugly.

Use:

We use it to express regret about the presence.


3.

Form:

Subject + wish + object + would/could + the rest of the sentence

Examples:

  • I wish my father wouldn't work so much. He is is busy that we don't  go to cinema anymore!

Use:
We use it to express our wish that could be fulfilled in the future.
