Imperative

Creating sentences in imperative is very easy:

Form

bare infinitive + the rest of the sentence + ! (optional)

Examples:

  • Be a good boy!

Negative Sentences

  • Don't say such horrible things!

When To Use?

We use imperative when we want to order someone to do something:

  • Stop being such a mother's boy!
  • Come back and fight with me!
  • Buy me a Coke.

We can also use it to invite someone to do something:

  • Help yourself to the biscuit.
  • Come and play with us.

In order to make the command more polite, use do or could at the beginning of the sentence:

  • Could you turn down the music?
  • Do sit down.
